How to make Jamu
Ingredients:
Anything goes with /jamu, but start with a base of ginger and tumeric and go from there.
Below is our favourte mix (note this makes around 8 serves.)
Slice the turmeric and ginger into thin rounds and juice, using an electric juicer (it’s ok to leave skin on). You should end up with 1 cup liquid combined. Add a little water to the juicer to extract more of the juice if you want. Place this in a 2 quart (8 cup) jar, pitcher or container. You can also place the ginger and turmeric roots in a blender, and puree with a cup or two of water. Let this sit for a couple hours, then strain.
Add the honey to 1 cup warm water and stir to combine well. Add this to the jar. Fill the jar with water (about 6 more cups) and squeeze with lemon or lime to taste.
Jamu is normally taken as a morning shot, or as a ‘pick me up’ throughout the day if you are feeling run down. It can be consumed cold or warmed as a soothing infusion. (this is particuallr tasty during the colder months.)
Taking the above recipe, there are a few ways to change it up, depending on yoru needs.
For a warming tonic, add 50-100 mls of Jamu to a cup of boiling water.
For relief of a cough or symptoms of a cold, add fresh lemon juice, applice cider vinegar and coconut oil to warmed Jamu.
For a delicious mid morning drink (for when youre taking a break form coffee) add warm nut milks to your juma, for a Juma Latte! (We don’t reccoemed using dairy milk, due to the lemon)
Add jamu into your favoruite green smoothie for an afterwork out kick!
