This spirit of cooperation helps ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone.

At Goddess Retreats, there are no obligations or expectations. You’re free to participate in as many activities as you wish, or simply take time for yourself. While we strive to accommodate individual preferences, our retreat itinerary has been carefully refined over the years to offer the best experience for the group as a whole.

Customizing Your Experience
If you’d like to arrange additional activities during your stay, our retreat leaders are more than happy to assist. However, please note that while we do our best to meet personal requests, we are unable to alter the set retreat schedule to accommodate individual plans. If you already know you’d like to add extra activities to your week, we recommend letting us know before your arrival, as most of our partnered practitioners and providers require advance bookings as they are often fully booked for the week.

By joining a Goddess Retreat, you’re directly contributing to the local Balinese community. We are proud to employ almost 100 local people full-time, and for more than 20 years, we’ve partnered with other Balinese businesses to help support the local economy and their families. In addition to our retreat hostesses, we work with carefully selected local operators who provide the highest level of service in their respective fields. Your retreat experience helps sustain and strengthen Bali’s economy as a whole.
Your Trip Spreads the Love
When you choose a Goddess Retreat, you are also supporting meaningful causes in Bali. What to Pack for Your Bali Retreat
What Should I Bring?
We often get asked, “What should I pack for my retreat?” While we always say to bring an open mind, a sense of humor, and an adventurous spirit, here’s a more practical packing list to help you prepare for Bali’s hot and humid weather (typically 30+°C / 86+°F year-round).
Essentials
- Light, Breathable Clothing: Think T-shirts, shorts, sundresses, and anything that helps you stay cool.
- Several Swimsuits: Perfect for beach days and pool lounging.
- Yoga Wear: Comfy, stretchy tops and bottoms are great for your yoga practice. While we provide textured mats that grip well in tropical weather, consider bringing a yoga mat towel if you prefer extra non-slip comfort.
- Comfortable Sandals or Flip-Flops: Bali is very hot, and casual dressing is expected. Sandals or flip flops are acceptable in most restaurants, and make it easy to visit markets, galleries or beaches.
- One Pair of Sturdy Sneakers: Essential for activities like hiking, cycling, or walking tours.
- Lightweight Windbreaker: Handy for morning or evening hikes, and during breezy outdoor activities.
- One Layer for Travel: A cozy layer for chilly airplanes or airports.
- Prescription medication (if required)
- Book or e-reader
- Bank Cards and Cash: It’s important to be well prepared in Bali, with a few points of access to cash. We recommend bringing a couple of bank cards, and some cash in the local currency of Indonesian Rupiah.
- Phone and Related Accessories:These days, a smartphone is more or less an essential item when travelling. Making sure you bring your smartphone, charger, adapater (we have universal plugs at our retreats)
- Optional: Yoga Grip Towel – that helps to make yoga mat non-slip in the tropics plus easily transitions to a gym, travel, surf or beach towel.
- Optional for Surfers: Surf leggings offer excellent sun protection and help prevent irritation from board wax and skin friction. Pair them with your favorite rash guard for added comfort, although communal-use rash guard tops are provided.

Sun & Insect Protection
- Sunglasses & a Hat: For sun protection during your outdoor adventures.
- Sunscreen: We recommend bringing your own sunscreen, as we only provide it during surf lessons.
- Insect Repellent: Although we use natural insect repellents at the villa, if you’re prone to mosquito bites or need something stronger, it’s best to bring a personal supply.
Health & Comfort
- Water Bottle: We kindly recommend bringing your own reusable water bottle to help you stay hydrated throughout your retreat. Bali’s tropical heat can quickly lead to dehydration, which may cause headaches, dizziness, or nausea. Having your own bottle allows you to easily refill from our water stations and stay refreshed, plus it’s an eco-friendly choice!
- When traveling to new places like Asia, it’s helpful to have a few essentials in your medical kit for peace of mind. Items like Imodium and Peppermint capsules can be handy for settling your stomach if you encounter new foods. Including electrolyte sachets and basic pain relievers ensures you’re prepared for long days in the sun. Consider adding antihistamines for any mild allergies and insect repellent for tropical areas. Dramamine or Bonine can help with nausea and motion sickness. These simple items can help you feel comfortable and enjoy your trip with ease.
Special Add-Ons
A Little Space for Kindness:
We’re honoured to support the IKA Foundation, which cares for children and women undergoing cancer treatment in Bali.
If you have a little extra space in your suitcase, here’s their current wish list:
For Children: warm clothes, wool hats/beanies, aloe gel moisturiser, small toys, drawing books, colour pencils.
For Women: washable breast pads (Avent brand is commonly used), aloe gel moisturiser, soft wool scarves.
If you’d like to help, simply hand your items to our retreat hostesses on arrival we’ll make sure they reach the patients with love.
You can also donate directly via bank transfer:
Account name : Yayasan Intan Kinanti Angligan
Bank : Bank Negara Indonesia
Acct number : 8811068889
SWIFT CODE : BNINIDJARNN
Bali’s Little Steps Matter Charity: If you have a little extra room in your luggage, consider bringing items to donate. Dry food, simple flea, tick and deworming treatments or food for dogs are always needed. In Bali you are also welcome to buy a bag of rice or dog food to donate to the charity when you are in Bali. It’s a great way to give back to the local community!
You can also donate direclty to little steps matter via their website.
What Can I Buy in Bali?
Bali is a shopper’s paradise, offering an array of affordable and beautiful items—from handmade crafts to designer boutiques. Even if you’re not a big shopper, you’ll likely be tempted by the fantastic bargains!
Packing Tip: Bring less than you think you need and leave room in your suitcase for the treasures you’ll find on your trip home!

Preparing Your Body for Wellness – What To Expect on Your Retreat
What to Expect When You Start to Heal
When you transition from a typical Western diet (processed foods, caffeine, low fiber) to a whole-foods, high-fiber, natural diet — especially during a retreat that also includes body therapies— your body begins a deep healing process. This shift is powerful and positive, but it can also bring short-term symptoms as your body detoxifies and adjusts. Understanding what is happening helps you feel confident and supported as your body resets.
Why Detox Symptoms Happen
- Dietary Shift: Most people are not used to high fiber, spices like turmeric and chili, or purely natural foods. Fiber feeds beneficial gut bacteria and helps move waste out, but at first, it can cause faster digestion, mild bloating, or loose stools.
- Body Therapies: Massage, acupuncture, cupping, and sound healing stimulate lymphatic flow and detoxification pathways, pushing stored toxins into circulation for elimination.
- Travel Stress: Long flights, changing time zones, airport germs, and dehydration weaken immune defenses, making the body work harder to adjust.
- Gut Health: If you’ve ever taken antibiotics, it is likely your gut microbiome is weakened. Without strong beneficial bacteria, your gut and immune system can react more easily to dietary and environmental changes.
- These reactions are a normal part of resetting your system and usually pass within a few days.
Common Symptoms You Might Notice
- Mild headache
- Nausea or slight queasiness
- Low energy or fatigue
- Mild chills or feeling flushed
- Looser stools or slight diarrhea
- Mild muscle soreness after bodywork
- Temporary skin breakouts
- Brain fog or emotional ups and downs
Note:
– Chills and nausea can occur from detox and dehydration, not just infection.
– Mild diarrhea from increased fiber or spices is very common and usually self-resolves.
– True Bali Belly involves violent vomiting and diarrhea, not the same as milder detox symptoms.
How to Support Your Body
Before and During the Retreat:
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate: Aim for 2–3 liters of filtered water daily. Add electrolytes (like coconut water or electrolyte sachets) to replace lost minerals, especially in the tropical heat.
- Ease into fiber and spice: If possible, start eating more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains before arrival. Chew foods slowly. Allow your gut to adjust.
- Support gut health: Take a probiotic supplement or eat probiotic-rich foods (like yogurt or sauerkraut) before and during the retreat to strengthen your microbiome.
- Avoid alcohol: Alcohol dehydrates the body, taxes the liver, and can upset the gut further. For best results, avoid drinking during the retreat.
- Rest and pace yourself: Healing happens during rest. Give yourself permission to nap, relax, and avoid overexertion, especially in the first few days.
- Communicate with therapists: Let massage therapists know if you feel sensitive — they can adjust pressure to suit where you are in your detox process.
- Practice gentle movement: Walking, stretching, or light yoga can stimulate circulation and lymphatic flow without overwhelming the body.

Remember:
These symptoms are temporary. They are a sign your body is doing the important work of cleaning, healing, and restoring balance. Be patient and kind with yourself. Within a few days, many people report feeling lighter, clearer, more energized, and deeply renewed. If you ever feel concerned or if symptoms seem severe (such as persistent high fever or uncontrollable diarrhea), please reach out to our retreat team. We are here to support your health and wellness every step of the way.
You are beginning a beautiful journey toward deeper vitality, and your body is celebrating with you!
